Dear Mr. Mulhern,
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Elfreth's Alley Association, our neighbors and fellow Alley residents, the past residents and descendants of the Alley, and the hundreds of thousands of men and women who visit the Alley each year, please accept my sincerest thanks for your wonderful work on the restoration of the historic cedar roofs on 124 and 126 Elfreth's Alley.
We have received non-stop compliments on the quality of the work and the speed with which it was completed. Your crew was fast, skilled, and extremely courteous and patient with the demands of working in a heavy-traffic historic site like this.
These buildings were built in 1755 by Jeremish Elfreth and are two of the oldest rowhouses left standing in the City of Philadelphia. They were slated for demolition at least twice in the 252 years since their construction,
before the Elfreth's Alley Association acquired them and turned them into a museum telling the stories of ordinary Philadelphians. This was the first new roof the buildings have seen in more than 40 years and your work will help ensure that future generations will be able to learn from these buildings. Thank you for your excellent work.
